You’ll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out

Posted on: February 15, 2010

After waiting patiently for slow long 4 years..

(From left – Quatchi, Miga, Sumi and Mukmuk)

..the Winter Olympics is back and this time it’s held in Vancouver, Canada!

[ I didn't get to watch the opening ceremony though :( ]

And obviously, the sport that I’m following closely is..

Figure skating!

It’s a little more tragic for me this time because finals are actually in 2 weeks (gaspgaspgasp), my first paper is 4 days after the closing ceremony and I don’t know if I’m allowed to watch it then, I don’t think Astro is going to have full coverage on this and they didn’t print the events schedule in their monthly guide for me to highlight and fold and set my alarm clock like what they did for Torino, and.. my parents are strongly against me watching TV now that my finals is 2 weeks away.

That aside, I got to watch the short program for pairs from 9AM to 12Pm. Actually they cheated because from 930 – 1030 was men’s skiing, so I had to constantly persuade my parents to not make me switch off the TV and that pairs was coming up soon. Thank God.

Anyway, I LOVE TEAM CHINA! && Russia! GO TEAM CHINA I SUPPORT YOU WOOHOO!! Seriously, they are the best pair skaters in the world! Especially Xue Shen + Hongbo Zhau and Qing Pang + Jian Tong, they have been my favourites ever since I knew pair skating existed! Also Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang! Simply amazing! I love watching triple twists in pair skating and their lift variations! Pairs from China have the best triple twists ever!

Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhau, finished 1st with 76.66 in the short program. How awesome is that? Oh and that’s a triple twist lift, throw the girl up, she rotates and twists, then catch her at her hip and land her on the ice.

Side-by-side Y-spin.

Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang with a spin variation and they finished 5th with 71.28.

Overhead lift. I like them :)

And TADAAA – my favourite pair of all three pairs from China – Qing Pang and Jian Tong who finished 4th with 71.50. That’s a death spiral. I don’t know why death spirals these days are higher than usual, I like the ones where they’re lying almost parallel to the ice.

Triple twist :)

Another spin variation. I don’t think there’s a name for this ;P

Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov from Russia who are simply amazing! My favourite singles skater is a Russian and these duo are really good, finished third with 74.16. Triple twist.

I think this is a press lift. I love her dress, it’s a swan, and she was wearing a tiara/headband which was really cute.

I think this was a side-by-side catch-foot camel spin.OMG Yuko looks so excited :D And somehow she looks like a mature version of Chiew Yi and Alexander looks like Jim Carrey.

Another spin variation.

And lastly, a German pair who had a cute routine and definitely one to look out for :

Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy who finished second with 75.96 and their theme for the day was ‘clowns’. The music was nice, so was their routine. Twist lift.

Another spin variation. (Okay, the truth is, I’m lazy to name them lah >_<”) I love her brown skates! (Though till today, I still prefer white)

I can’t wait for the pairs long program! I hope I’ll get to watch it and not be in school and daydream about it. This year’s routines are the best that I’ve ever watched!

~

That’s it for ice-skating and Vancouver! Sorry if I bore you but I love skating with my life! It makes me ultimately happy!

Chinese New Year was very quiet for me this year. We went to Johor to have a little R & R and catch up with the relatives from Singapore who own a nice house there. I wasn’t up for any socializing, but we had a couple of movies and they weren’t that bad (the movies, not the people).

I slept late watching a movie and I got to watch 30 minutes of fireworks which I think originated from Singapore. The house was just 5 minutes from the border so.. we can pretty much see what celebration was going on.

They were beautiful! I was running from one window to another while everyone was asleep (how they are able to sleep throughout the ruckus amazed me) and peeking through the curtains.

I love fireworks :)

Now, I am off to *hopefully* begin studying because FINALS ARE IN TWO WEEKS PEOPLE, TWO WEEKS, TWO FREAKING WEEKS and I don’t want to fail. Get Cs, that’s fine, but not fail! I will kill myself if I fail! Or stab myself with my blades! They’re sharp you know!

And I want to check out this new Harvest Moon game I downloaded. Next to Pokemon, I LOVE HARVEST MOON.

Gah. I are freak.

And I still have to prepare slides for my presentation. OMG SO LAZY.

OMG Mukmuk and Sumi are RECYCLING BOTTLES hahahahahahahahaha!!

xoxo,

ChiRa
